Mastering

Mastering is the last creative decision before your music meets its listeners.

Recording studio with mixing desk and studio monitor speakers

Every release on The Hermes Music is mastered with the same care, and we offer the same service to artists and labels outside the roster. We listen to the mix as a whole and make the final adjustments in tone, dynamics and loudness so it competes with the records it will be played next to.

We master for the way electronic music is actually heard: in DJ sets, on streaming platforms and on headphones. The result is loud enough for the club without losing the punch and space that make the track work.

What's included

  • Tonal balance and EQ
  • Dynamics, compression and limiting
  • Loudness targeted for clubs and streaming
  • Stereo width and low-end mono check
  • Masters for streaming, download and vinyl on request
  • Consistent sound across an EP or album

How we work

  1. Upload

Send your final mix with some headroom and a reference if you have one.

  2. Master

We master the track and send a version for you to check.

  3. Adjust

If anything needs changing, we adjust it based on your notes.

  4. Deliver

You receive final masters in the formats your distributor and DJs need.

Common questions

How should I prepare my mix for mastering?
Export a stereo WAV at the session sample rate, without a limiter on the master bus, leaving a few decibels of headroom.
Do you master EPs and albums?
Yes. For multi-track releases we master the tracks together so they sound consistent from start to finish.
Do I need to release on The Hermes Music to use the service?
No. Mastering is open to independent artists and other labels.
